Between October 9-12, 2024, the historic city of Burgos, Spain, became the hub for a transformative learning activity under the GaminGEE project. GaminGEE, short for GAMe-based tools to Foster an INtegrative model for early Gender Equality Education, is dedicated to empowering educators and communities by providing tools and resources that promote understanding, tolerance, and action against gender-based discrimination and violence. This pioneering project seeks to create a foundation for gender equality education through innovative methods, including a unique video game designed to influence young minds positively.
Day 1 Highlights
The first day set the tone with an enthusiastic welcome and an ice-breaking session that brought together participants from diverse backgrounds. The engaging atmosphere was the perfect precursor to introducing the project’s cornerstone: an innovative video game crafted to address significant issues such as gender-based violence and LGTBIQ+ discrimination. This hands-on gaming session provided participants with direct experience of how digital tools can be leveraged to promote inclusivity and combat prejudice in schools and communities.
Attendees were also introduced to comprehensive diversity guides created for educators and families. These guides equip them with the practical knowledge and strategies needed to foster inclusive environments and support those facing challenges related to gender diversity.
The day concluded with a crucial focus group discussion where participants shared their experiences and initial feedback on the video game. These insights were essential for refining the game and ensuring it met the project’s objectives of promoting gender equality, eliminating violence, and supporting diverse identities in educational contexts.
Day 2 Highlights
On the second and final day, the learning activity delved deeper into how GaminGEE’s tools can be seamlessly integrated into educational practices. Attendees explored the practical application of these resources in fostering inclusive and respectful environments that address and mitigate gender-based violence and discrimination against LGTBIQ+ individuals.
The feedback collection process continued, with participants completing detailed quality questionnaires. These responses provided valuable perspectives on the usability and effectiveness of the video game and guides, ensuring that future iterations would be even more impactful.
Outcomes and future prospects
The two-day event successfully equipped educators, facilitators, and advocates with tools and knowledge to promote gender equality and foster a culture of respect. By integrating the video game and educational guides into their practices, participants are now better prepared to inspire understanding and positive change in their communities.
GaminGEE stands as a beacon of hope for reducing violence and discrimination through the use of innovative, digital-age methods. With the learning activity’s success, the project continues to pave the way for scalable and culturally adaptable resources that can impact schools and communities not only across Europe but globally.
